Tucson and Outdoors
Tucson shines in January, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 65–68°F and cooler evenings between 36–40°F. While occasional rain is possible, most days are sunny and pleasant—perfect for walks, hikes, and other outdoor activities. Our evening gatherings will take place both indoors and outdoors, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or an extra layer for warmth.
Local Activities
Sabino Canyon Recreation Area - A popular destination for visitors, Sabino Canyon offers a pristine desert experience with both paved paths and natural trails. For a different perspective, an hourly shuttle ($15) operates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing exceptional views of the canyon. Parking is available for $8.
Mt. Lemmon - Called a “sky island,” Mt. Lemmon (9,157 feet) rises within the Santa Catalina Mountains and offers a unique high-altitude ecosystem with trails ranging from high desert landscapes to pine forests. Located about an hour from downtown Tucson, it is reached via the scenic Catalina Highway and is also home to the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.
If you have time, there are many other unique opportunities, such as the UA Mirror Lab, Kartchner Caverns, the Desert Museum, etc.
